This news comes at a time when the Vinton Police Department is being investigated by a special grand jury.
Town manager Clay Goodman would not comment if this investigation played a part in their sudden retirement -- but did say the town requested the investigation.

Another apparel plant is shutting down in Henry County.

County officials confirm that Ashmore Sportswear is closing its Collinsville plant and outlet store.
That will put more than 100 workers out of a job by January, when the plant shuts down.
The company has been in Collinsville since 1994.
It makes T-shirts and athletic apparel.
Ashmore Sportswear officials were unavailable for comment today.
But one worker attributed the layoffs to competition from foreign sewing operations.

A plane has crashed off the runway in Chicago into Lake Michigan.

The Coast Guard says the small plane went into the water at about 8:30 Central Time.
Rescue crews were being sent by boat and other emergency vehicles are on the scene.
It's not immediately known how many people were on board the plane or if any people were in the water.
The plane went off (Migs) Meigs Field- an airport on Chicago's lakefront.

This afternoon Thomas Jones was named one of the 15 semi-finalists for the Football News offensive player of the year award. Jones already has three 200 yard games this season and leads the nation in rushing.
