((There's no question people over the age of 65, or those with chronic health problems, should get a flu shot. We even say healthy adults who want to stay healthy should probably get them as well.
VT=VO

But what about children, do they need flu shots? Well, just like adults if they have any health problems such as asthma or diabetes, a flue shot is definitely a good idea. It's also recommended that kids who live with adults who are at risk of problems if they'd catch the flu should get the vaccine as well. But what about other children who live in healthy households? Do they need flu shots? The answer is, we don't know. One reason, we want to make sure there's enough vaccine for older people. And second, most healthy kids don't get as sick as adults do when they come down with influenza. But none the less, influenza can make a youngster terrifically ill as well as put them at risk for a complication such as pneumonia. Your best bet, talk to your doctor and get some advice if you are not sure. And if you do decide to go ahead and get your child immunized, keep this in mind. If they've never gotten a flu shot, they'll need to get the dose split, and get two shots about a month apart to get full protection. ON CAM I'm Dr. Dave Hnida for CBS News.))
