The National Transportation Safety Board is holding a late afternoorn press briefing- where it is expected to turn over the investigation to the FBI.
The word comes after analysis of the jet's cockpit voice recorder- where tranmissions suggested the crash was no accident at all.
Lee Cowan is following developments and joins us with the latest from Washington.

(( Suspecting EgyptAir flight 990 may have been brought down deliberately, the focus of the investigation is expected to take an
ominous shift --- from accident to crime.
JAMES HALL, NTSB CHAIRMAN
As such, already overwhelmed by a host of other high profile cases,
the FBI will soon be in charge of this one as well an international
investigation that could be long and expensive and may require a
massive salvage operation at sea.

NARR:
While traveling in Turkey, the President was briefed by his
national security team on the developments and the director of Egypts
Civil Aviation Authority arrived in Washington to help address concerns
that EgyptAirs pilots are now at the center of a criminal probe.
What changed is what analysts heard on the cockpit voice recorder,
pulled from the ocean floor over the weekend.
GRAPHICS:
The tape captured a crewmembers voice, believed to be that of the
co-pilot -- making some type of religious statement possibly a prayer
just before the Boeing 767 began its zero gravity dive into the North
Atlantic. But theres disagreement about what they may mean.
But it does appear he was alone shortly thereafter, the voice of
the captain can be heard entering the cockpit asking: What was going
on, then begging for the co-pilot to help him pull the plane up, out
its near supersonic dive.
A few seconds later, the tape goes dead the last voice heard
asking that the engines be cut off.
COWAN ON CAM:
Even if the FBI shifts the focus onto the pilots, there is still a
difference between an act of terrorism and foul play. Either way, the
FBI says it has no evidence to suggest anything, one way or the other. And it could take a long time to find out. Lee Cowan, CBS News, Washington.))

One of NASCAR's true pioneers, H. Clay Earles died this morning following a year long illness.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
Earles was dreamer. In 1947, he bought an overgrown corn field at turned it into what is now the Martinsville Speedway.
In fact, his track opened a year before NASCAR even existed. And he was in business a dozen years before the Daytona International Speedway was built.
Earles was an innovator in the sport. When fans grew tired of getting dusty from the dirt track, he became the first owner to pave. It was a move that NASCAR owner Bill France Senior originally opposed.
