A man who helped build auto racing both here and across the country has died.

[VO-NAT]

H. Clay Earles died this morning following a year long illness.
Carving the Martinsville Speedway out of a 30 acre corn field in 1947, Earles helped pioneer the sport he loved.
His track opened a year before NASCAR even existed and it was 12 years before the Daytona Speedway was built.
Earles was an innovator in the sport. When fans grew tired of getting dusty from the dirt track, he became the first owner to pave. It was a move that NASCAR owner Bill France Senior originally opposed.

New Developments in the crash of Egyptair Flight 9-90 reportedly has put the investigation in the hands of the F-B-I.
According to the voice recorder someone in the cockpit uttered a short prayer just before the plane plunged into the Atlantic.
And Government sources say that could suggest the plane was deliberately brought down.

(( The NTSB is expected announce later today that it is bowing out as the lead investigative agency in the Crash of EgyptAir flight 990 turning it over instead, to the FBI.
It means the probe would no longer be an accident investigation, it would be a criminal one instead.
The decision comes after analysis of the cockpit voice recorder raised serious questions about the actions of at least one of the pilots. GRAPHIC:
Analysts at the NTSBS lab in Washington say a voice in the cockpit probably the co-pilot-- can be heard uttering what sounds like a prayer in Arabic just before the plane started its fatal plunge toward the North Atlantic.
But theres disagreement about what that may mean. Even the co-pilots friend tells CBS he may have been simply reacting to a problem, not beginning something more ominous.
SOT/CAPT.L YOUSRI HANAFY, FRIEND OF CO-PILOT

This words mean that somebody is in danger. Not mean that hes doing something. NARR:
But it does appear that he was alone. A few seconds later, the voice tape records what sounds like the cockpit door opening and what may be the pilot asking: Whats going on?
Shortly after that, it appears he sits back down and begins a struggle to pull the plane out of its zero gravity dive, apparently urging his co-pilot to pull with me.
The last voice heard on the tape is one saying cut the engines.
SOT/JAMES KALLSTROM, CBS NEWS CONSULTANT

I think every word, every space on this tape is going to be synced with the data recorder and is going to be analyzed by multiple experts. COWAN ON CAM:))
