Virginia Tech Police say they'll seek indictments against a man who taught engineering classes at the university.
He's the subject of a criminal investigation -- that he may have embezzled nearly 100-thousand dollars in state funds.

Keith ... police confirm tonight they will seek indictments against Arthur Degener...

This picture is from a 19-88 yearbook, when Degener was a senior at Tech.
[SUPER=03-Blacksburg]

He went back to Tech last year to work on his P-H-D.
During that time he taught an undergraduate class at the college of engineering.
He also was in charge of a lab renovation project.
The school says he was authorized to buy construction supplies and other equipment.
But this summer an internal audit raised questions about how he spent that money.
Now ... Virginia Tech police say the indictments they'll seek are based on their investigation ... and that investigation suggests Degener may have embezzled about 98-thousand dollars.

[Live=Scott full/Newsroom]

Police say a grand jury will look into this in January.
At this point, no charges have been filed against Degener.
We called him, but Degener referred us to his lawyer.

But what's treasure to some junkyard operators is an eyesore to some area residents.

The city estimates that if it passes, between 12 and 20 businesses could be taxed.
City Council says it will reconsider its proposal in a work session in December and hold a public hearing before coming to a decision.
Meanwhile, junkyard operators hope Council's plans to regulate their business end up in the scrapheap.
