Troopers say his grandmother was driving near Arcadia yesterday, going slower than the speed limit when a tractor trailer behind her slammed on the brakes but jack-knifed.
The tractor trailer driver is from Texas and was charged with reckless driving.

They robbed the First Virginia Bank branch on 419 at gunpoint this afternoon. Witnesses say a white man and an African-American man- -each around 20 years old- -entered the bank wearing fake beards and blue jumpsuits. When the robbers got to their car, the dye pack discharged, spraying the bandits with red dye. The two men left their dye-stained clothing behind and fled. Police say this is the first robbery they've seen in the Roanoke Valley in a while.

Nearly a dozen people are feared dead after their passenger ferry ran aground and then sank in the icy North Sea off western Norway.

The ferry, a brand new catamaran that started operations in August sank quickly in cold and heavy seas and high winds.
Rescuers found 77 of the 80 passengers and eight crew within three hours of the accident. Vessels continued to scour the water with searchlights in an effort to locate any remaining survivors.
