This as the Tultex apparel company files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection.
As part of its reorganization, Tultex is closing facilities in South Boston, Roanoke and Martinsville.

State police say a sport utility vehicle trying to avoid a traffic tie-up struck a guardrail and then was hit by a truck.

Dale Earnhardt was one of many drivers who spoke to a capacity crowd at the Waldorf Historia tonight. All of the drivers were on hand for the party and the team owners as well. Richard Childress was in attendance.
Jeff Gordon of course did not win the championship this season but did finish in the top 10 in points. He thanked Ray Evrenham for his efforts and also praised his new crew chief, Virginia Tech graduate Brian Whitesell.
But the night belonged to first time Winston Cup points champion Dale Jarrett who was the last to speak.
