The stand- off at a Louisiana jail is going into its sixth day but there may be an end in sight.
The remaining prisoners evacuated the building after authorities created a passage allowing the men to slip past the warden's office where six inmates are continuing to hold seven hostages.

A former top C-I-A official is making a link between a man charged with bringing explosives to America and Osama bin Laden.
Vincent Cannistraro (kahn-ihs-TRAHR'-oh) says timers seized from the man are the quote "signature devices'' of groups connected to the suspected terrorist mastermind.

Officials say they took the timers and 30 ounces of nitroglycerin from Ahmed Ressam's (AH'-med res-AHMZ') rental car after he crossed from Canada into Washington state.

Friends and family said good-bye today to Cherica Adams, the pregnant woman Rae Carruth is accused of murdering.

About a thousand mourners jammed into a Charlotte, North Carolina church for the funeral.
Adams died Tuesday, 28 days after she was struck by bullets fired from a passing car.
Doctors then delivered her son-- who is said to be steadily improving.

Over the years more than 60-thousand students have received diplomas with his signature.

The late director of the Hopkins Planetarium in Roanoke is set to become the city's first space traveler.
On Tuesday, Gary Close's ashes will be launched into orbit on a rocket that will blast off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California..
Close died February first at age 59.
His cremated remains will be joined by those of 35 others from five countries.

His wife says he is no longer capable of having a conversation that makes sense and doesn't recognize any of his friends.

Thousands gathered in Mount Vernon, Virginia, today to re-enact the funeral for America's first president, George Washington who died 200- years ago.

The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, which maintains and operates the plantation, spent two years researching details of the funeral.

Washington died on December 14th, 1799.

After two long years, environmental activist Julia "Butterfly" Hill is back on earth today.

Hill's spent the last two years living in the ancient redwood she calls "Luna."
Now she's practicing the art of walking, something she's done little of while tree-bound.
The 25-year-old Hill has lived in the tree since December 10th, 1997 to protest logging.
She decided to come down after reaching an agreement yesterday with Pacific Lumber that will preserve the tree and others surrounding it.
