Snow creates slippery conditions for holiday shoppers and travelers.
Good evening, I'm Scott Goldberg.
The snow is keeping police busy on Christmas Eve -- responding to a number of accidents, one of them fatal.

Tina Tenret has more on how this could affect holiday travel.
Scott you could hear the sqawks on police scanners all day long -- an accident here, a fender bender there.

For others -- the timing could not have been worse.

[IN Q=We hear there]
((WE HEAR THERE HAVE BEEN SOME FENDER BENDERS ON ROUTE 114 IN THE NEW RIVER VALLEY WHICH IS NEAR THE COMMERCIAL AREA THERE AND I THINK THAT'S GOING TO BE COMMON BECAUSE IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE AND FOLKS HAVE A LOT OF LAST MINUTE ERRANDS TO DO.))
[OUT Q=TO DO]
V-DOT warns drivers to be cautious especially on the mountains, where the snow is piling up and moisture freezes first.
Bridges and overpasses are tricky spots too.
So shelling out 600-thousand-bucks for a new VDOT safety patrol may have been worth it.

VDOT reminds drivers to stay at least a couple hundred feet back from snowplows so the salt and stone don't bounce up and hit their cars.

But is this something we'll have to worry about tomorrow?
Let's ask Andrew in our weather department.

A hijacked Indian Airlines plane is on the ground, for now, in the United Arab Emirates.
The plane landed at a military base in Dubai, more than nine hours after hijackers took over.
189-people, including one American, were flying from Nepal to India.
The hijackers reportedly wanted to go to Afghanistan ... but were told they couldn't land there.
An official in the United Arab Emirates has reportedly said the plane will be allowed to refuel ... but he said his country wants the plane to leave as soon as possible.
Hijackers claim they've killed four passengers, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Roanoke police are checking to see if the man they arrested last night is the same man who's been breaking into homes and touching women while they sleep.
48 year old Eric John Waterman is charged with breaking and entering, and sexual assault.
A woman in the home told police the man touched her on the leg as she slept.
In Halifax County a man wanted for shooting 30 year old Joseph McCullock in the head has turned himself into authorities.
54 year old Max Duane Rolfe walked up to an officer this afternoon and surrendered.
The sheriff's office says Rolfe fled yesterday after the shooting near Hogwallow Road.
That's in the northern part of Halifax County, southeast of Brookneal.
Rolfe was arraigned this evening and is being held at the Halifax Adult Detention Center without bond.
McCullock is alive at Duke University Medical Center -- no word on his condition.

Coming up on the broadcast, a secret letter could hold information about Michael Fulchers actions inside Bland Prison.
And is Washington D.C. in Governor Gilmore's future? We'll explain after the break.
The man accused of running a drug-trafficking ring inside the Bland prison is asking to have charges against him and his family dismissed.
Attorneys for Michael Fulcher, his wife and his mother are making the request based on a secret letter sent by the D-E-A to a federal judge last month.
[VO-NAT 599-4 44:25-------or 99-26 1:23;30]
They claim there will be new evidence that the D-E-A officially authorized Fulcher to work undercover inside Bland Correctional Center, where he was an inmate.
The defense also claims that Fulcher and his family got involved in a drug ring to bust guards involved in a marijuana and money-laundering conspiracy.
A hearing is set for Monday.
Governor Gilmore might have his sight set on a job in Washington D.C.

That's what Gilmore said in a radio interview taped yesterday.

The Virginia Tech Hokies continue have taken time to both prepare for their Sugar Bowl national championship showdown with Florida State and to relax a little during this Christmas week.
But the Holiday season might not be as nice for former Tech star and now Green Bay Packer Antonio Freeman. According to reports, police in Wisconsin are saying the wide receiver could face charges stemming from a car accident in a restaurant parking lot that left a female passenger seriously injured. A police officer said that Freeman and Charles Jordan could be charged with obstructing officers if it is found that they switched vehicles after Freeman ran his car into a light pole Wednesday night. The receivers passenger was injured when her head hit the windshield. She is in fair condition today.
