A respected federal drug agent risks his job and the government's wrath to protect a con-man.

In an emotional letter to a judge, drug agent Don Lincoln said that his testimony in court may have been wrong.
The letter means the Fulcher family -- who sold drugs and laundered money in Bland Prison -- may get new trials.

A national commission on terrorism headed by Governor Gilmore warns that the U-S may be too focused on nerve gas and biological weapons... and NOT focused enough on conventional terrorist devices like bombs.
But as the New Year approaches, officials in Virginia say there's NO specific threat of terrorism this week.

Roanoke Public Housing is never going to be the same.
Walls are coming down in Lincoln Terrace housing project -- 32 more houses will go by the end of the city's renovation.
The Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority is using 41 million dollars for a project they call Lincoln 2-thousand.
They plan to build new houses and renovate some of the old ones to create a neighborhood atmosphere.

The new housing plan will have various kinds of buildings to serve people with different needs and will be a stepping stone to eventual ownership.
The Housing Authority is trying to change the function of public housing and help people get on their feet.
Another P-C-B warning from the state health department tonight.. this one for a section of the Dan River in Halifax County.
Recent testing showed eight species of fish had been contaminated with the cancer- causing chemical.
Residents are advised to limit their consumption of flathead and channel catfish caught between Staunton River State Park to where the Dan River crosses into North Carolina.
Similar warnings have been in effect for the Staunton River near Altavista for two years.
No one knows what will happen once the New Year arrives.
But a professor at U-V-A whose religious web site has logged more a million hits isn't predicting any millennial outbursts.... at least from any cult-like groups.
Professor Jeffrey Hadden says hype over religious movements committing mass suicides is overblown.
Hadden created his Web site from his and his students' research-- research that details more than two hundred religious movements, ranging from Mormons, to U-F-O cults, to Zen Buddhists.

Y2K worries may be keeping some people away from New Year's Eve celebrations, but not at the Homestead.
The Bath County resort was close to capacity at Christmas and it's sold out for New Year's Eve.
Guests are still enjoying the Christmas decorations, and at least three separate celebrations will ring in the New Year.
The resort has become Home for the Holidays for a surprising number of families who return year after year.

Five former players from GW Danville helped the Thundering Herd complete an undefeated season.
Marshall has a good chance of ending up in college football's top 10 when the end of the season polls come out.
The 11th ranked Thundering Herd finished up 13 and oh today with a victory over BYU in the third annual Motor City Bowl.
The stage of yesterday's drama was the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.
The ball bounced Marshall's way as this Chad Pennington pass is intercepted by BYU's Jared Lee, but Lee fumbles and the Herd gets the ball back.
Pennington hits his mark the next time around as Doug Chapman makes the grab and cruises the next 30 yards for the only touchdown of the first half.
The Marshall broke the game open in the second half. Chapman this time goes 87 yards. He scored three TDs, ran for 133 yards and picked up MVP honors.
The Herd picked up the 21 to three win.

((The Cavaliers are hoping the sunny, warm weather of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area can erase the cold receptions they've received in the past. Two beatings from a pair of Big East beasts have these Cavaliers looking forward to the Big Ten's Fighting Illini.
In 1994, the Cavs fell to Boston College 31-13 in the Carquest Bowl. The Cavs had the early momentum with a bruising touchdown run by Jerrod Washington. But it was a tale of two halves as Eagles quarterback Glen Foley outscored UVa 14-nothing after intermission. After a two year break, Virginia was back in the Carquest to face Miami. NFL bound Tiki Barber was injured early and then freshman Thomas Jones got the call, finishing with 67 yards a touchdown and a costly fumble that was returned for a touchdown. Many of this year's Wahoos remember that game.

Roanoke's Kris Cantu broke a bone in his left ankle during Sunday night's four to three shootout win over Huntington.
Cantu has 16 goals and nine assists this season.

Roanoke also signed left wing John Poapst (POHPST). The 5'10 195 pound Ontario, Canada, native finish last season with 16 goals, and 27 assists in 39 games for St. Lawrence University.

It rained confetti as the Big Apple prepared for the big night.
Confetti will be dropped from the tops of 13 different buildings and shot out of 150 cannons at the stroke of midnight.
Crews were also on-hand to practice cleaning it all up.
Cherry blossom shaped confetti will fall at Japan's midnight, and boomerang shapes will fall at Australia's midnight.
