Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust
Some years ago there was a short article in the American Rhododendron Society Bulletin about the Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust in New Plymouth, New Zealand. This is a private Trust which has established an extensive rhododendron garden for the benefit of its members and others who may be especially interested in the
Rhododendron
genus.
The Trust puts out a Newsletter and their No. 19 for June, 1965 has recently come to our attention. One item of interest was some comments made by one of our own A.R.S. members from Seattle, Washington, who had been visiting Pukeiti. Perhaps we can get a story about his visit.
Another interesting item was that the dues for membership in the Trust are 2 guineas a year which by my reckoning is approximately $6.00. However, there are Temporary Members' Cards, available at 10 shillings, which are designed to be given as gifts by members to prospective members among their friends. These Temporary Cards make the holder a member for three months.
The Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust was founded some fourteen years ago and has apparently been successful in developing a very fine rhododendron collection.
