1947 Rhododendron Shows

Two Pacific Northwest rhododendron shows will be accredited by the American Rhododendron Society in 1947 and participation in the Oakland Spring Flower Show has been authorized by the Society's directors.
One of the best known national flower shows, the Oakland Spring Flower Show, will begin on April 29 and continue through May 2. The American Rhododendron Society will enter this spectacular show for the first time this year. The theme of the show will be "Fantasia" and the Society's entry will be designed and built by Mr. Clarence Prentice, well-known landscape designer from Seattle. Many members have indicated that they will make the trip to Oakland to see what has been called the nation's top flower show.
The Second Annual Rhododendron Show in Seattle will be held under auspices of the University of Washington Arboretum Foundation on May 10 and 11, Chairman of the Seattle show is Donald G. Graham, well known to all members of the American Rhododendron Society as one of its directors. Entries in the Seattle show will be accepted from non-members of the Society as well as members. For information and schedule of classes members may write to the Arboretum Foundation, 516 Medical Arts Bldg., Seattle, Washington. All members of the American Rhododendron Society are urged to enter the Seattle show.
Portland will welcome the Men's Garden Clubs of America in National Convention on May 23. At this time the American Rhododendron Society will hold its Portland show in cooperation with the show to be staged by the Portland Men's Garden Club as part of the program for the convention. The dates of the show are May 23, 24 and 25. Complete details giving classes and regulations for members entries in this show are published elsewhere in this bulletin.
