Our Front Cover

Cecil Smith again furnishes us with a color transparency of R. caloxanthum . In all fairness we must say that his transparency had better color values than appear in the reproduction which has a little too much yellow in the leaves. R caloxanthum belongs to the Campylocarpum subseries of the Thomsonii series and is native to Burma, Tibet, and Yunnan at elevations of 11-13,000 ft. It has not been used extensively in breeding, judging by the named varieties having it as a parent, although the current interest in yellows may have stimulated more use than we are aware of.
