David G. Leach, of Brookville, has been awarded the Loder Cup by the Council and President of the Royal Horticultural Society for his book, "Rhododendrons of the World". The award was for his research in the genetics of Rhododendron and for "the contribution made in improved rhododendron hybrids for cold climates."
Mr. Leach is signally honored in that this is the first time the award has been made to other than a British citizen. The presentation is to be made in London on February 24 by the President of the Royal Horticultural Society.
The Royal Horticultural Society is an agency of the British government. Its duties have been designated by the crown since its founding, and a member of the royal family has traditionally been its patron.
Mr. Leach has authored several sections of the new edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica which will be published next month. He is also currently working on an Encyclopedia of Horticulture which will be published in 1971 by Readers Digest.
