JARS v39n2 - Fifth Western Regional

Fifth Western Regional
Harold Greer, Eugene, OR

The Fifth Western Regional has been scheduled for Seaside, Oregon, on September 27, 28, and 29, 1985, so please mark your calendar for an exciting occasion. Sponsored by district 4, Oregon Chapters are planning an informative program series for your interest. There is space at the Seaside Convention Center for a large turn-out, and a variety of lodging is available to suit individual and family tastes. The new Shilo Inn, which opened last fall, will be the conference headquarters.
The conference will open Friday evening, September 27, with programs on the origins and geography of rhododendrons. On Saturday, program topics will include new, established and mature gardens, deciduous azaleas, a look at some grand rhododendrons, a presentation on kalmia, and for the banquet that evening, possibly a program on the rhododendrons of Japan.
Sunday programming will include a series of mini-topics on water systems, fertilizers, greenhouses, shade-houses, weed control, and spray programs. The conference will culminate at mid-day with a presentation by Fred Galle on evergreen azaleas.
There will be speakers from the northwest, the eastern United States and, if plans work out, several from abroad. The programs are planned with practical application in mind. Seaside is a family oriented convention center on the Oregon Coast where, in addition to the conference, a wide range of recreational activities are available. The Conference Planning Committee and host chapters look forward to your joining us in Seaside, Oregon, September 27, 28, and 29, 1985. Specific program information and registration fees and procedures will be published at a later date.
