In Memoriam: Dr. C. Clyde Stevens

Dr. Clyde Stevens, most commonly referred to as "Doc" or Clyde by many of our New York Chapter members, died on May 21, 1995, at the age of 92. He and his wife Susanna have been active in the New York Chapter for the past 35 years, starting as long standing book chairpersons, garden tour hosts, and plant sales participants. They last set up their sales table in our chapter's plant sale at Old Westbury Gardens less than a month before he died.
A 1929 graduate of the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, Dr. Stevens directed dental services for the Children's Aid Society of New York City, organized a volunteer dental service for Roslyn, N.Y., public school children, as well as other prominent professional and community services. He also served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps during WWII. In addition to his ARS membership, Clyde was a member of various other horticultural societies. We will all miss his quiet friendship.
