In Memoriam: Donald H. Acton

Donald H. Acton, a twenty-year member of the Shelton Chapter, ARS, passed away on June 17, 2004, at the age of 87, after being under treatment for cancer for several years. Don was born July 23, 1916, in Waverly, Ohio, and had lived in Shelton for the past twenty-two years. He was a retired U.S. Army Major and also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as an operational manager for the states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. His first two wives preceded him in death and in 1979 he married Anice (Garlock) Acton in Anchorage, Alaska.
Don enjoyed fishing and reading and was a world traveler. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post in Astoria, Oregon. He was also a past president of the Association of Retired Federal Employees and a member of the Shelton Elks Lodge. He attended the Shelton First Baptist Church and the Allyn Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Anice, one son, three daughters, three stepsons, one stepdaughter, one brother and one sister, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Don and Anice were both active in the Shelton Chapter of the ARS, becoming members in the 1983-84 year. Don's past contributions and presence at meetings are missed.
