The cover of the October Bulletin illustrates a noteworthy plant Kalmiopsis leachiana. In the President's paper in this edition titled Kalmiopsis leachiana a description, cultural requirements, and a brief history are given of this exceedingly rare plant. I have visited many gardens and have never seen the plant, in fact, my first introduction to it was at the A.R.S. Trial Garden, where three fine specimens are doing well. It is the President's desire that this native plant, that is so rare but also so desirable be afforded its rightful place in the rhododendron garden. True, the plant is not a rhododendron botanically speaking, but many of its features are little different from the finest rhododendron species.
