Note: "README.WP1" file contains the same information presented in this file in WordPerfect 5.1 format. This document explains the layout of the data included in this diskette. The data are presented in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics paper titled "An Experimental Study of a three-dimensional Pressure-driven Turbulent Boundary Layer" by Semih M. ™l‡men, and Roger L. Simpson, 1995, vol 290, pp. 252-262. The data consist of mean velocity, and all six components of the stress tensor presented in several coordinate systems measured at 7 stations in a 3-dimensional pressure-driven turbulent boundary layer of a wing-body junction flow. Different station data are located in separate directories. The directories ST1 through ST7 include data of stations 1 through 7 respectively. In each directory there are 2 sub-directories named "WC" and"FS". "WC" sub-directory contains the data presented in wall-stress coordinates. "FS" sub-directory contains the data presented in local-free-stream coordinates. In each of these sub-directories there are 2 more sub-directories named "YPLUS" and "BLT". "YPLUS" sub-sub-directory contains the data with y distance away from the wall is given as nondimensional wall units (y+=y*utau/nu). "BLT" sub-sub-directory contains the data with y distance nondimensionalized with the boundary layer thickness. However the data in the main directories are dimensional. In each directory, sub directory and sub-sub directory the file names are named according to the following convention: ST {first #} {second #} . {extension} ST, is the abbreviation for station, {first #} shows the station number {second #}, can have two different values, "1" or "der". Files with {second #}=1 contain the mean velocity data and stress components. File with {second #}=der contain the derived information from the data. {extension}, shows the coordinate system the data is presented in or the nondimensionalizing velocity used for the mean velocity and velocity products. Files with {extension}={WC} contain the data presented in the wall-stress coordinates. {extension}={FS} files contain the data presented in the local-free-stream coordinates. {extension}={TC} files contain the data presented in the tunnel coordinates. The data in files with extension "WC","FS", "TC", are dimensional. The velocity and stress data in these files have the dimensions of (m/sec) or powers of it, and the y distance has a dimension of (m). Data files with {extension}={UT} contain the data which are nondimensionalized with the skin-friction velocity. {extension}={UR} files contain the data nondimensionalized with the reference velocity (nominally 27.5 m/sec). The data in the files with {second #}=1 are in the following order: y, U, V, W, u2, v2, w2, uv, uw, vw The data in files with {second #}=der are in the following order: y, N, A, Flow angle, Flow gradient angle, Shear stress angle in which N stands for the anisotropy constant, A=Townsend's structural parameter =shear stress magnitude / ( 2* turbulent kinetic energy) Flow angle =arctan (W / U) Flow gradient angle = arctan((partial W/partial y)/(partial U/partial y)) Shear stress angle =arctan(vw/uv) The derived quantities are given only in local-free-stream and wall-stress coordinates.
