Abstract Two species of Acantopcephala of the genus gigantorhynchus (G. echinodiscus, G. Lutzi) are considered with relation to the proposed new species, Gigantorhynchus orticei, found in the intestine of Metachirus nudicaudatus from Peru, South America. The specific name is dedicated to the late Javier Ortiz de la Puente, chief ornithologist of the Museum of San Marcos University, Lima, Peru.
