Date of Defense 2001-06-21 Availability unrestricted Abstract This is a project about making, or what it fundamentally means to take part in what seems like such a natural, yet remarkable, human trait: the ability to make. There are countless different types of makers in the world, but it seems that of all of them, the architect occupies a unique position. It occurs to me that, with a few exceptions, the professional architect is one of the only makers who has the handicap of not working directly with the object of his making. A painter or sculptor works without the hindrance of having to translate that which is in his mind to others. Changes can be made without consult, refinement is sought at every movement of the hand, and, in the end, perfection is the only acceptable conclusion.Files
