Date of Defense 1940-05-15 Availability restricted AbstractThe interest in nuclear physics and cosmic rays that has developed
in America has caused wide use of the Geiger counter as a detector of charged
particles and ionizing radiations. Work has been done to increase the reliability
of the counter which has involved further work on the mode of its
operation. Recent work which has developed improved manufacturing methods
has made possible the use of Geiger counters in quantitative work.
It is the purpose of this paper to review the field of the Geiger
counter with respect to their construction and use.
