ETD Systems Implementation and Maintenance

This is the ETD database software developed at Virginia Tech, which we make freely available to members of the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD). ETD-db provides a workflow that enables ETD submission, approval, and access through a series of Web pages and perl scripts that interact with a MySQL database. This link also provides information about hardware requirements as well as instructions for downloading and installing the ETD-db software.

Here are guidelines for the metadata elements that describe an electronic thesis or dissertation. These metadata can help institutions define cross-walk between local metadata and a single standard used for sharing information about ETDs.
The ETD-MS elements can be encoded in a variety of standard formats, including MARC and XML. NDLTD members who function as OAI data providers can export both XML-encoded ETD-MS and OAI-standard XML-encoded MARC data, irrespective of how they store their ETDs data locally. In particular, sites that use ETD-db are able to export both formats automatically.
