Staff Senate selects new VP

Spectrum Volume 17 Issue 5 - September 22, 1994

Fred Phillips, senior internal auditor in the Internal Audit and Management Services Department, was elected vice president of the Staff Senate at the September meeting.

Phillips replaces Wyatt Sasser, who assumed the presidency last month when former president Charlie Stott accepted a faculty position.

The senate heard a report on plans for the first James D. McComas Staff Leadership Seminar, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11. Staff senators, alternates, and staff-association officers have received invitations to the 8:30-noon seminar in Squires Brush Mountain Room. The seminar is planned as the first in an ongoing series of annual seminars for staff leaders.

Senators discussed policies regarding carpal-tunnel syndrome and the fact that such injuries are not covered under current workers-compensation law.

In other business, Sheri McConnell was elected to serve on the University Council and Mary Rhoades was elected to the Commission on Classified Staff Affairs.
