DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION. Full or associate professor.

The person appointed to this position will also be appointed to the position of head of the Department of Building Construction. Candidates must hold at least a master's degree in construction or a related field of study. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree and/or a significant level of professional experience. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of intellectual leadership, administrative and interpersonal skills, and experience in field and project management. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership to the department, to maintain an active teaching and research agenda, and administer the undergraduate building construction program and the construction management option of the M.Sc. in architecture. The position will be a 12- month appointment, effective on or before Aug. 16, 1995, with salary, rank, and tenure commensurate with experience and qualifications. COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES. Service-Learning Director.

In keeping with its pledge to better serve the communities of Southwest Virginia and beyond, Virginia Tech is looking for an individual to provide dynamic and innovative leadership for a service-learning program launched in March 1994, which already includes participants from over twenty units throughout the university. The director will have a proven record of experience working with campus and community groups and a willingness to embrace a demanding new program which is already generating excitement throughout the university. The Service-Learning director must have excellent communication skills, a strong desire to affect change, and a proven record of a commitment to diversity. The successful candidate will be familiar with student development issues and will know how to work in partnership with community-based agencies. The director will be expected to secure sources of external funding, initiate curriculum development, supervise service activities, and act as a spokesperson for the high-profile program on and off campus. Minimum qualifications include a master's degree and experience in service-learning and administration. Funding for this professional faculty position has been secured for two years. Renewal beyond the two-year period will depend upon the success of the program and the obtaining of permanent funding. The salary range is $30,000-$40,000, depending upon qualifications.
