Avellar joins CFWR development

By Lynn Davis

Virginia Tech Spectrum, October 5, 1995

Brecc Avellar has been named development director for the College of Forestry and Wildlife Resources. He also will continue his community economic development work for the college.

He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech. Avellar has held engineering, and sales and marketing positions for various companies. He has done private consulting for paper-, plastic-, and rubber-recycling businesses.

Dean Greg Brown said, "We are glad to have Brecc on board as we launch our college's $6-million capital campaign drive, which is part of the university's $250-million campaign recently announced."

Avellar succeeds Annie Stafford, who left Virginia Tech for a position in Michigan.

In his economic development work Avellar matches industrial needs with the research capabilities at the college, especially in the areas of natural fiber production, use, and re-use, as well as in forest- and agricultural-residue recycling.
