Boling named CALS Employee of the Month

Spectrum Volume 18 Issue 10 - October 26, 1995

Joe W. Boling has been selected as the employee of the month for October by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Boling has been a member of the Department of Food Science and Technology for 16 years. He is a programmer analyst.

As part of his responsibilities, Boling teaches hardware and software applications to undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty members. He teaches the lab component of four different undergraduate courses and also has been involved with course development.

Boling also has held or team-taught numerous short courses in computer applications for food processing industries related to poultry, meat, wine, and seafood. In addition, he has developed instructional programs for these industries and has worked closely with various companies' management to implement computer and quality-control systems. He also has worked with state agencies such as the Virginia Marine Products Board to help them define computer needs and has trained their personnel on software and other applications.

He has several Extension publications on statistical quality control and has been a co-investigator on grants to teach computer applications to the seafood industry. As a result of taking numerous courses in computer science, statistics, and food science he is frequently involved in research project design and statistical analysis.

Boling is recognized by his colleagues for his computer expertise, independent work ethic, and unselfish dedication to his department and the college.
