(Combined Virginia Campaign Update: Through the end of last week, the CVC has received $84,116.56. This figure represents 40 percent of the university's goal of $210,000. Below is some information describing how Combined Virginia Campaign funding addresses situations in the New River Valley.)

FACT

It is estimated that a woman is battered by her partner every 11 seconds. In fact, battering accounts for 33 percent of emergency room visits by women.

RESPONSE

The Women's Resource Center served 2,949 adults and children in Montgomery, Radford, and Floyd counties through domestic-violence programs, sexual-assault programs, and victim witness programs.

FACT

One out of four children lives with a single parent--16.6-million children nation-wide.

RESPONSE

In 1994, BigBrothers/Big Sisters of the NRV provded 29 children with positive adult role models.
