McComas honored with portrait

Spectrum Volume 18 Issue 12 - November 9, 1995

A formal oil portrait of former President James D. McComas was unveiled for the annual meeting of the William Preston Society last Friday. The portrait will hang with portraits of 12 other former presidents in the Burruss Hall president's board room.

Adele McComas returned to Blacksburg to share the occasion with the Preston Society, which is composed of former members of the university Board of Visitors. Many in attendance served with McComas, who was president from 1988 to 1993.

McComas stepped down in September 1993, after being stricken with the cancer that ultimately took his life in February 1994.
