FACULTY JOBS

NON-INSTRUCTIONAL

PROPOSED COLLEGE OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND EDUCATION. Dean. (Re-advertisement). The College of Human Resources and the College of Education have been recommended for merger effective July 1, 1996. The dean reports to the senior vice president and provost and has responsibility for the academic and administrative leadership of the college. This entails oversight of research; academic programs, including the appointment and professional development of the faculty, the curriculum, and the welfare of students; Cooperative Extension programs; staff; budget; facilities; alumni affairs; and development. The mission of the college is to improve individual, family, and community well-being through the development, delivery, and evaluation of consumer goods and services and the enhancement of the personal, social, and economic health of humans and their relationships. The college's instructional, research, and extension/outreach programs utilize an interdisciplinary, life-span approach to build self-reliance, personal responsibility, and economic prosperity in the people and society they serve. Human Resources encompasses five departments: Clothing and Textiles; Family and Child Development; Hospitality and Tourism Management; Housing, Interior Design, and Resource Management; and Human Nutrition and Foods. It also houses six research and service centers, dealing with gerontology, housing, hospitality, marriage and family therapy, child development, and adult day care. Human Resources has 84 faculty members, 38 support staff members, and approximately 190 graduate and 1,400 undergraduate students. Education encompasses two departments: Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, and Teaching and Learning. It has 85 faculty members, 30 support staff members, and 1,200 graduate students, 600 of whom are at off-campus sites, and 300 undergraduate majors with an additional 300 majors in other colleges seeking teacher certification. Both Human Resources and Education have departments that are ranked among the leading programs in the country. The dean of the College of Human Resources and Education will be expected not only to sustain the high level of accomplishment already achieved, but to position the college for the next century, responding to external forces and anticipating change locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally. Such change may include greater interaction with external constituencies through continuing education, extension/outreach programming, and public schools while maintaining a strong commitment to excellence in instruction and research and to collaboraremain open until filled.
