Re: Delayed-pay article

(Editors' note: Spectrum and other university offices have received several critical letters concerning Irene Leech's suggestions for coping with lag pay in the October 17 article, "Delayed-pay scheme still on state books.")

Leech is one of Extension's family-finance specialists, and was asked by the Office of Personnel Services to provide advice for coping with the effects of the delayed-pay program. Several other universities have also asked her to conduct workshops and financial-planning sessions.

Speaking for the university, Larry Hincker, director of University Relations said, "It is important to note that lag pay affects a very diverse commmunity state-wide. While the program was not initiated by the university, its effect on Tech employees is a matter of genuine concern for university officials. These officials wish to thank Professor Leech for her efforts and comments, and her willingness to perform what would undoubtedly be an otherwise thankless task."
