Holcomb named to YMCA position

Spectrum Volume 19 Issue 35 - July 17, 1997

The YMCA at Virginia Tech has selected Barbara Holcomb of Blacksburg as its new executive director. Holcomb replaces Barbara Michelsen, who retired in April as executive director, but will continue working as a part-time consultant and special-project coordinator through November 1997.
Holcomb is continuing her tenure with the YMCA, an organization in which she has served over the last seven years as director and assistant director of the YMCA Student Programs. In her previous positions, Holcomb worked with YMCA university-student leaders as they learned leadership skills coordinating community-service and social-issue-based programs. She served on various university committees, including the group that lobbied to begin Virginia Tech's Service-Learning Center.
Holcomb is currently vice-chair of Virginia Campus Opportunity League's Board of Directors, a state-wide non-profit organization that supports campus-based service programs. She also is a member of Virginia Tech's Women's' Center Advisory Board.
Holcomb has a master's degree in curriculum and instruction and her bachelors of arts degrees from Virginia Tech.
