Self-study info going on web

Spectrum Volume 20 Issue 06 - October 2, 1997

Sections of the draft report of the "institutional effectiveness" (IE) component of the self study will be posted on the web, starting this week.
In the IE component we are documenting our compliance with nearly 500 "must statements"--accreditation criteria--that relate to virtually all of the educational and management functions of the university. Since summer 1996, individuals closely associated with these functions have prepared initial responses identifying the nature and location of appropriate documentation. These responses have been reviewed by administrators in relevant oversight positions and by appropriate university commissions and committees.
Now we are asking the broader university community to review them for accuracy and completeness. Ultimately, the report will be incorporated into the university's end-of-year submission to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Unlike the product of the strategic component (which is also on the web), the IE report will be subject to an audit by a visiting team in March 1998, and we will be held accountable for its content. The self-study page may be reached via the provost's page or directly at the following address: http://www.vt.edu:10021/admin/provost/selfstudy/. Corrections and additions should be sent to Marcia Harrington (harngton@vt.edu) .
