Applicants should have at least five years of managerial-level industry experience and be able to demonstrate teaching ability in subject matter relevant to the hospitality industry. An emphasis in the areas of food service, facility design, and/or catering is desirable. A master's degree is required with one degree earned in the area of hospitality and tourism management. Duties include teaching at the undergraduate level, advising students, participating on committees, and involvement with service to the people of Virginia. NON-INSTRUCTIONAL
Department of Housing, Interior Design, Resource Management/Clothing and Textiles. Extension Agent. Half-time Extension agent on the Blacksburg campus. In this position, the agent will support specialists in the development and delivery of priority programs in all areas of the MHCE specialty and, concurrently, work on an advanced degree in the department. Responsibilities include working as a member of the MHCE planning team and assisting in the development of teaching materials, newsletters, and other publications in a variety of formats, including electronic; handling responses to agents' requests; collecting and analyzing program-evaluation data; determining effectiveness of program-delivery methodologies; and interpreting research findings for use with lay audiences. Qualifications include BS degree (MS preferred). Candidate must be computer iterate and able to communicate and develop materials using a variety of media. Candidate must qualify for acceptance in the HIDM/CT graduate program and is expected to complete degree before returning to an agent's position. Salary is $22,000 plus tuition for nine credits annually. Position available Jan. 5, 1998 or as soon as suitable candidate is identified.
