Reaffirmation Committee Chair Visits Campus

By David Conn,

self-study director

Spectrum Volume 20 Issue 19 - February 5, 1998

John Prados, chair of the SACS reaffirmation committee that will come to Virginia Tech from March 15-18, made a preliminary visit on January 23.
His primary purpose was to check on the logistical arrangements for the March visit, and he said that he was well-satisfied with what he found. Prados is vice president emeritus and university professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His field is chemical engineering, and he recalls serving with President Paul Torgersen on a committee of "young faculty members" when both were starting their careers.
As previously mentioned in Spectrum , the SACS committee will consist of two teams. The compliance team will conduct an audit of the institutional-effectiveness component of our self-study, while the consulting team will provide advice on the strategic component entitled "Transforming Virginia Tech for the Information Age."
The entire self-study report is available on-line (in html and pdf formats) at http://www.vt.edu:10021/admin/provost/selfstudy . Paper copies have now been distributed to deans and department heads as well as to the Newman and Northern Virginia Center libraries.
