NON-INSTRUCTIONAL
Physics Department. Research Associate. The position is currently available and the successful applicant will be stationed at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The appointment will be on a yearly basis with renewals expected. Applicants with hands-on experience with the standard hardware and software in intermediate or high-energy physics are most desirable. Virginia Tech is a member of the Laser Electron Gamma Ray Force (LEGS) collaboration. The LEGS facility, located at BNL, provides an intense beam of tagged (180-470 MeV), polarized (>90- percent) gamma rays. In preparation is a frozen spin HD target (P freep = 80 percent, Pn = 50 percent) and a universal spectrometer providing large acceptance for y,n,p, and pi detection. LEGS expects to measure, via Compton scattering and photoproduction, important quantities related to nucleon structure: a) GDH sum rule, b) nucleon spin polarizabilities, and c) neutron electromagnetic polarizabilities. Statistics Department. Department Head. The Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech invites applications for the position of department head. Candidates for the position should have a Ph.D. in statistics or related field and be qualified to hold the rank of full professor at Virginia Tech. Candidates should have strong commitments to teaching, research, and outreach and be able to represent the department within the university and the statistics profession. Experience and familiarity with undergraduate and graduate programs, and grants and contracts is desired. The primary responsibilities are to provide leadership and administrative support for a faculty of approximately 20. The Department of Statistics is one of the oldest statistics departments in the nation and has a long history of research, graduate and undergraduate education, and service to the statistics profession. The B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are offered with current enrollment at roughly 40 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. The faculty has a wide range of interests in both applied and theoretical statistics. Virginia Cooperative Extension. 4-H Extension Agent. Position #FA689, 4-H Extension Agent, Youth Development, in Wythe County. Extension agents are lecturer rank, non-tenure-track, professional faculty positions. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Will manage a non-formal experiential educational program for youth, and adults working with those youth, to further develop life skills necessary as self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society. Responsibilities: Agents must determine program needs by monitoring trends and issues, involving Extension leadership councils and advisory committees; design programs to meet needs of target audiences, specify program goals and objectives, and identify resources; inform clientele of program activities; use appropriate technologies to plan and deliver programs through workshops, seminars, conferences, one-on-one visits, on-farm demonstrations, field trips and tours; maintain knowledge of current research information; develop computer applications; develop and implement evaluation plans; recruit and use volunteers; and report results to clientele, public, and administration. Qualifications: Master's degree or imminent in related discipline is required. Current Virginia Cooperative Extension faculty members with bachelor's degree may be considered based on specialty, expertise, and performance. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers; experience in relating with people. Experience in planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs preferred. Computer/computer software knowledge desired.
