Phi Beta Delta initiates 58 new members to society

Fifty-eight Virginia Tech faculty and staff members, undergraduates, and graduate students were initiated as new members of Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society recently. The society is open to those with significant involvement and interest in international education.
The new inductees are: Irma Silva-Barbeau, Peyton Howard Massey, Marcie Boucouvalas, Edward Weisband, Antionio A. Fernandez, Norman G. Marriot, William E. Skelton, Lee H. Drowne, Bruce Zoecklein, Gerardo Flintsch, Judith H. Snoke, Richard F. Harshberger, Janine S. Hiller, Mahmood A. Khan, Dilip k. Shome, Gary L. Wansley, Landrum L. Cross, June Neiman Stubbs, John C. Stubbs, Cornelias Van Der Schyf, Jeanette E. Bowker, Anna Marshall-Baker, Jane A. Wemhoener, Arthur Hirsh, Eliza Tse, James Roberts, Christie R. Hinson, Tracy L. Skidmore, Siva P. In his keynote address at the induction ceremony, Edward Weisband, Diggs endowed professor in the Department of Political Science, stressed the importance of creating linkages between individuals and among organizations to affect genuine progress in the field of international education and to promote greater international understanding.
Also at the ceremony, Provost Peggy S. Meszaros accepted on behalf of Virginia Tech the Phi Beta Delta Outstanding Chapter Award for the southeast region.
Officers for 1998-99 were installed at the ceremony. They are Herbert Stoevener, president; William E. Lavery, immediate past president; Peter Schmitthenner, vice president of faculty and staff; David Jones, vice president of United States students; Paolo Dadone, vice president of international students; Deborah Conrad, secretary; Tom Hammett, treasurer; Patrick Carlton, chapter coordinator; Julie Trimpe, assistant chapter coordinator.
