INSTRUCTIONAL
Department of Chemistry. Assistant Professor . Tenure-track appointment in analytical chemistry. Position is available August, 1999. Qualified applicants will possess the Ph.D. degree in chemistry or a related field. Research experience should complement those areas of research currently pursued by the faculty. Preference will be given to those candidates who express an interest in biologically related areas of analytical chemistry (i.e., bio-separations). The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Chemists at Virginia Tech enjoy fruitful collaborations with members of other departments in the university through several interdisciplinary centers, including a biotechnology center and a school of veterinary medicine. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate actively in such interdisciplinary efforts. Virginia Cooperative Extension. Extension Agent (re-advertisement). Virginia Cooperative Extension is seeking applications for the Extension-agent position listed below. The successful candidate will be lecturer rank, non-tenure-track, professional faculty. Agriculture and Natural Resource agent positions have area responsibilities in their program specialty. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Extension agent, Agriculture and Natural Resources--111090, Animal Science, Albemarle County. The position requires basic knowledge of animal nutrition, health, animal care, and reproduction; production and financial management; marketing; biotechnology developments; waste management and utilization; and water quality. Responsibilities: Agents must determine program needs by monitoring trends and issues, involving Extension leadership councils and advisory committees; design programs to meet needs of target audiences, specify program goals and objectives, and identify resources; inform clientele of program activities; use appropriate technologies to plan and deliver programs through workshops, seminars, conferences, one-on-one visits, field trips and tours; maintain knowledge of current research information; develop computer applications; develop and implement evaluation plans; recruit and utilize volunteers; and report results to clientele, public, and administration. Qualifications: Master's degree required or imminent; one or more degrees in related discipline preferred. Current Virginia Cooperative Extension faculty members with bachelor's degree may be considered based on specialty, expertise, and performance. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers; experience in relating with people. Experience in planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs in a related area preferred. Computer/computer software knowledge desired. Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence. Coordinator for Athletic Advising . Position is a one-year appointment starting September, 1998. The coordinator for athletic advising must have a doctorate and experience in advising and providing academic assistance to undergraduate students. This position requires strong administrative skills, experience in budget management, ability to work with NCAA eligibility policies, and an understanding of conceptual models of student success. Strong supervisory skills and the ability to work with students, parents, coaches, faculty members, and academic and athletic administrators is also required. Primary job responsibilities include program and budget administration, coordinating student-athlete eligibility, advising student athletes, coordination of the Summit on Student Athlete Success, working on other projects related to student athlete success, and other duties as assigned. Candidates should demonstrate strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
