TECH STANDOUT GETS LORIA MEMORIAL AWARD

Women's basketball player Amy Byrne received the Frank Loria award on Thursday, given annually to a Virginia Tech athlete who excels in academics and athletics and exhibits outstanding citizenship and leadership qualities.

The award is named after the former Tech All-America football player who died in a plane crash.

Byrne, a senior center, is the second-leading scorer in Tech women's basketball history with 1,245 points. She is averaging 19.8 points and 7.1 rebounds. - Staff report
