FRONT PAGE NO PLACE FOR VMI STORY

IT IS SHOCKING that with all the problems facing the world and most especially our own internal troubles, drugs, the massive deficit, education, the health and welfare of young and old, etc., you found the all-male status at VMI so important as to occupy more than half of Sunday's (Feb. 18) front page.

If this immature attitude of the student body and the faculty is that important to them, we will be in great trouble if our military of the future is officered by minds still in the 17th and 18th centuries. All this to-do is based on a childish and overdeveloped importance placed on tradition and a need to be macho. What we do need is intelligent, responsible and innovative minds that are mature enough and capable of handling any situation that may arise with quick, sure judgment and action.

I hope that in the future you will reserve the front page for issues that are truly important and concern the welfare of the country, not the vanity of a few.
