NO ARRESTS YET IN I-81 SHOOTING DEATH OF TEEN

Bristol police reported no arrests Friday in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Burger King assistant manager as she was driving home from work on Interstate 81 shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Authorities found that Tammy Salyer was killed by a single shot before her car crashed near Exit 4 on the interstate. Lifesaving crew personnel thought they were responding to a wreck victim, but found that Salyer had been struck in the head by a bullet.

Police have recovered a bullet casing near the scene. Bristol Police Chief Tom Stone said that apparently someone pulled alongside her car and fired the shot through the woman's window on the driver's side.

Salyer was a 1989 graduate of Virginia High School. Funeral services are scheduled for today at 2 p.m. at the Weaver Funeral Home.
