DAVIDSON, JESSE T., JR.

BEDFORD - Jesse Thornhill Davidson, Jr., age 82, of 617 Westview Avenue, retired President and Chairman of the Board of Piedmont Label Company, Bedford, died Saturday, March 3, 1990, in Bedford county Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford on September 18, 1907, a son of the late Jesse Thornhill Davidson, Sr., and Laura Jeter Davidson. Educated at Randolph-Macon Academy, Bedford, he was Cadet Captain and Battalion Commander of the graduating class of 1930 at Virginia Military Institute. He also attended the School of Business Administration at Harvard University. He was a lifelong member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served for many years on the administrative board. Active in community affairs, Mr. Davidson served several terms on Bedford City Council and was a member of the boards of directors of Dominion Bank and Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was a charter member of the Bedford Lions Club; a member of the Shenandoah Club, Roanoke; and served in the Army Air Force in World War II, retiring with the rank of Major. He is survived by his wife, Maxwell Phillips Dudley Davidson; a son, Dr. Jesse T. Davidson, III, of Roanoke; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd C. (Gene) Dahmen of Chestnut Hill, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. Stuart T. (Dorothy) Saunders of Richmond; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, March 5, 1990, at 12:00 noon with Dr. William F. Quillian, Jr., President Emeritus of Randolph-Macon Women's College, and the Rev. Reginald H. Potts, III, officiating. Memorials may be made to the Jesse T. Davidson, Jr. Scholarship Fund at Virginia Military Institute or to the Main Street United Methodist Church Building Fund. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, and other times at the home.
