RADFORD ARTIST WINS AAUW ART SHOW

"Good Fence Make Good Neighbor," a watercolor by Z.L. Feng of Radford, is first-prize winner in the annual American Association of University Women art show.

The show's youth division was won by 16-year-old Keith Brown of Daleville. He received $150 for a pastel titled "Hallway of Doom."

The show is in Valley View Shopping Center. It will continue through March 10 and can be viewed during mall hours.

In the adult division, Harriett Stokes of Salem won second place with an oil titled "Country Vista." Third place went to Judy Bates of Salem for a watercolor titled "Spring Kaleidoscope No. 1."

"Blue Ridge Transformation IV," a watercolor by Charles Goolsby of Raphine, placed fourth. Fifth prize went to Fred McGann of Waynesboro for "Na Pali Coast," a Cibachrome photograph.

Receiving honorable mention were Eileen McCaul-Basham of Roanoke, untitled photo; Betty Calabua, Bridgewater, "The Red Pitcher," watercolor; Martha Brown Mayo, Daleville, "Perelandra," ink drawing; and Elizabeth K. Heil, Salem, "Computer Matrix," computer graphic.

The Dominion Bank purchase award went to Donna Spraker of Roanoke. Her entry was a hand-painted photograph of the neon H&C Coffee sign in downtown Roanoke.

Second prize in the youth division was won by Allison Kirkendall of Roanoke for "Running Deer," a work in handmade paper. Danny Kiser of Salem won third prize with a watercolor titled "Forgotten."

Other youth prize winners in descending order were Lauren Ricci, Roanoke, "Cat in Black and White," scratchboard; Jason Fizer, Roanoke, "Lonely Swing," colored pencil; Christine Permenter, Roanoke, "A Fall Day," watercolor; Scot Keen Salem, "Vesuvio Bakery," watercolor; Eryn Perry, Blacksburg, untitled photo; Stephanie Miller, Roanoke, "Starstruck," colored pencil; Dawn Brockman, Riner, self-portrait in ripped paper collage.

Given honorable mention were Sheri Jones of Roanoke for an acrylic titled "Floating Leaves," and Keri Hansen of Roanoke for a watercolor titled `'Serenity."
