OBIT SMITH, H.

Howard W. Smith, Sr., age 72, of 3708 Bear Road, S.E., formerly of Beckley, W.Va., died Sunday at 12:30 a.m. in a Roanoke hospital after a long illness. Mr. Smith had been a resident of Roanoke for the past 10 years and was a member of the Garden City Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Poloski Smith; one son, H. Wesley Smith, Jr., Roanoke; one daughter, Ramona Sue Griggs, Lillburn, Ga.; two brothers, Glen Smith, MacArthur, W.Va.; Edward Smith, Danese, W.Va.; one sister, Mrs. Ann Danley, Harvest, Ala.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, 800 S. Oakwood Avenue, Beckley, W.Va., with the Rev. Joe Pizzino and the Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. Burial will be in Calfee Cemetery near Beckley, W.Va. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
