COMMENDATION FOR ANN WEINSTEIN

WHILE I disagree strongly with Andy Williams (letter Feb. 13) on government funding for the arts and his narrow definition of art, I do not argue with his right to make his views public.

However, I take great umbrage at his berating of Ann Weinstein. Williams said her column was not a place for personal opinions. What else is an art reviewer/critic's job?

To say Ms. Weinstein does not do enough to cover and support local arts is an outrageous accusation against one of the strongest art patrons in the community. One person can attend only so many functions in a week's time, and it has been my close observation through the years that this woman does an incredibly just job.

That is not to say I always agree with her opinions, but I respect her energy, intelligence and commitment. Ann Weinstein is to be commended for a job well-done. LINDA BRICKEY SALEM
