SANDERS, ELIZABETH S. CHILHOWIE - Mrs. Elizabeth Sydnor Sanders, age 73, died Monday, March 5, 1990, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion. Mrs. Sanders was born in Hanover County, Va., July 24, 1916, and was the daughter of the late William D. and Elizabeth Stubbs Sydnor. She was a member of the Chilhowie United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, was past president of the United Methodist Women, and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member and past president of the Chilhowie Garden Club. During recent years, she was actively involved in the Smyth County Historical Society and was past regent and corresponding secretary of the Royal Oak Chapter of the D.A.R. She is survived by her husband, Edwin B. Sanders; one son, the Rev. E. Benjamin Sanders, Pewee Valley, Ky.; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas M. (Betsy) Slemmer, Redlands, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. John (Rhoda) Collins, Capitola, Calif.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Chilhowie United Methodist Church with the Rev. David St.Clair and the Rev. George Wingard officiating. Burial will follow in the Beattie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of Chilhowie United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services.
