GILBERT TO TAKE LEAP AT ALL AMERICA STATUS

Washington and Lee junior Carl Gilbert has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships Friday and Saturday at Smith College in Northhampton, Mass.

Gilbert, who was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, was among 11 performers selected to compete in the triple jump. The Bassett native met the Division III qualifying standard with a leap of 46 feet, 11 inches at the VMI Winter Relays on Feb. 10.

Gilbert is ranked seventh in the nation in the triple jump. If he places among the top six in the meet, he would be the first W&L indoor track athlete to attain All-America status. - Staff report
