BOLAR TO IDLE 117, HALTS OPERATIONS

Bolar Pharmaceutical Co. said Monday it has ceased virtually all of its generic drug manufacturing operations and will lay off 117 workers at its Copiague, N.Y., and Puerto Rico plants. The moves come in the wake of Bolar's troubles with the Food and Drug Administration and other legal and financial problems.

Bolar also said it had pleaded no contest to a suit filed last month by the Securities and Exchange Commission accusing the company and its former president, Robert Shulman, of making false and misleading disclosures and failing to disclose material information about Bolar to its shareholders. - Newsday
