UVA WOMEN WIN ACC TITLE

Tammi Reiss hit a short jump shot with 30 seconds left in overtime to lift No. 13 Virginia to a 67-64 victory over No. 9 North Carolina State in the championship game of the ACC women's basketball tournament Monday night.

The shot came after N.C. State forward Krista Kilburn hit a jumper to tie the score at 64 with 1:05 left. The Wolfpack had an opportunity to tie the score again with 14 seconds left, after Christa Hull was fouled by Tekshia Ward. But Hull missed both free throws.

Dena Evans hit a free throw with 10 seconds left to give the Cavaliers their final margin of victory.

Virginia led 37-25, but N.C. State used a 22-9 run to take a 47-46 lead on a 3-pointer by Nichole Lehmann with 10:59 left. Kerri Hobbs scored nine points in the run.

The Wolfpack built its lead to 56-50 with 4:33 left on a free throw by Kilburn. But Virginia tied the score at 57 with 1:57 left on Reiss' 3-pointer.

Reiss gave Virginia a 60-57 lead on a free throw with 1:11 left in regulation, but N.C. State's Andrea Stinson made a 3-pointer with 29 seconds left in regulation to force the overtime.

Reiss led the Cavs (26-5) with 23 points.

Stinson paced N.C. State (24-5) with 15 points.
