REPORT OF SUFFERER FROM PASSIVE SMOKE

JACK POOLE'S letter Feb. 19, which states, "Health damage from passive smoke in a public place is not supportable in fact," shows not only ignorance, but also gross insensitivity.

For all of last November, I suffered a severe sinus infection with complications caused by constant encounters with minute amounts of tobacco smoke in the grocery store, drug store and local public high school. For one week I could only whisper.

The headache (which I always get from passive smoke) was severe enough to bring tears. To make matters worse, I could not pay for the necessary medication needed for the severity of the infection, thus delaying treatment. This can be verified by Dr. Max E. Bertholf.

I notice that the health warning on the product didn't keep me from getting the irritation that led to the infection.

As for being legal, pass regulations and enforce them by whatever means is necessary. Those of us with severe allergies to smoke don't always have someone else to run our errands for us.\ PATRICIA D. DEEL CLOVERDALE
